Focus on research

FOCUS increases the "discoverability" of U of T publications. The FOCUS and T-Space Research Repository services are given high priority indexing by Google. FOCUS is an installation of BibApp (http://bibapp.org/), built on powerful open source technologies and already in use by a number of universities.
FOCUS allows you create department pages as well as individual and group research profiles. For example, the Department of Sociology has a "Home" page as well as pages for groups within the department:
Crime & Sociol-Legal Studies
Gender & Family
Health & Mental Health
Immigration & Ethnicity
Networks & Community
Political Sociology
Sociology of Culture
Stratification, Work & Labour Markets
Some of the information items that can appear on these pages are:
- Photographs
- Research profiles of individuals or Department and group descriptions
- Lists of publications and publishers with works by U of T faculty
- Visual indicators of the types and subject of publications

FOCUS supports easy uploading of citations from a number of citation management systems such as RefWorks, EndNote, Zotero, and others. FOCUS also supports the loading of citations from bibliographic databases such as Scopus and other systems.
FOCUS provides links to electronic versions of works.
FOCUS adds images of book covers via Google Books

FOCUS is built on BibApp (http://bibapp.org/features/) an open source program originally developed by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champagne and Wisconsin.
The University of Toronto Libraries are developing FOCUS on Research in partnership with University of Toronto Research & Innovation. To learn more about how you can take part in the FOCUS on Research service contact Sian Meikle (sian.meikle@utoronto.ca or 416-946-3689).
