Otherwise take the escalators to the 4th floor and then take the stairs in the Reference area to the 5th floor.

Borrowing privileges

Most books, including atlases and maps, are reference only, not for circulation.

Types of restricted materials

Maps and aerial photos do not circulate.

Some materials - foreign topographical maps - are in storage and require 24 hour retrieval.

Many data files are restricted to use by the U of T academic community (faculty, students and staff only).

Software manuals: latest editions do not circulate.

Yes. $0.10/page for letter and legal size; $1 sq/ft for maps..

Scanner

Large format scanner is available for digital map reproduction.

Size and scope of collection

Data Library Service Collection
Circa 5000 files of statistical, and research data, text files, and some spatial data files, primarily but not exclusively in the social and medical sciences. Also, major financial and economic databases.

Map and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Collection
235,000 maps, thousands of aerial shots, 15,000 volumes, 22,351 microforms. Collection includes maps, atlases and GIS data providing world wide coverage on a large range of subjects. Books are support material on cartography, bibliographies, gazetteers, etc. Aerial photo coverage is primarily for greater Toronto.

Part of the collection - largely foreign topographical maps - is kept in storage and requires 24 hours for retrieval.

Most data and statistical files are not listed in the Library catalogue. They are, however, searchable at: http://www.chass.utoronto.ca/datalib/.

Map and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Collection
Maps published after 1980 and all map records for Canada are listed in the Library Catalogue These maps (up to 1992) are also listed by subject in apaper catalogue located in Map and Data Library. Pre-1980 maps can be located in the Map Library card catalogue organized by area, subject and some author entries. Books and atlases are listed in the Library Catalogue.
