Holders of U of T Library cards may borrow printed materials and listen in-house to re280,000 bound vols., journals, scores and chamber music parts; 100,000 LPs, 60,000 compact discs, 30,000 78 rpm recordings (the Sniderman Recordings Archive); 4,000 open-reel tapes, 2,800 audio cassettes, 30,000 microform units, 6,800 sets of choral, band and orchestra parts. This is a strong reference and research collection in Western art music ('classical' music) with developing holdings, particularly in recordings, of non-Western traditional and art music. Special files: sheet music, Hart House Quartet Scrap-books, Parlow Collection, Welsman Memoranda, Canadiana. Composer archives: John Beckwith, Walter Buczynski, Talivaldis Kenins, Lothar Klein, Udo Kasemets, and Rob McConnell.cordings. Others may use materials (except recordings) in the library.
Specialized Subject Collections
Sniderman Recordings Archive
Rare Book Room materials, protected materials, microforms, major collections and collected works of a composer must be used in the Library. Periodicals circulate overnight. Teaching staff and graduate students of the Faculty of Music may borrow recordings: otherwise use of recordings is restricted to the Listening Room.
