Wikipedia is often the starting point for research and is used to discover a variety of information sources. The U of T Libraries has hired former Wikipedian in Residence Alex Jung as the new Open Technology Specialist to support the research and learning of the U of T community and beyond by improving access to high quality unique online open access primary source resources and collections like digitized rare books, web archives, and art. In his new role, Alex will participate in a range of activities, such as researching material to be shared with the Wikipedia community; contributing to Wikimedia projects from U of T Libraries' special collections; implementing new strategies to improve U of T Libraries' presence in the open information environment; and supporting collaborative projects related to Wikipedia and Wikidata. Alex will hold office hours, develop toolkits and community programming, and provide advice on related issues.
If you are curious about Wikipedia, or want to collaborate on projects that seek to improve knowledge in the public domain (even if you have not done it before), please feel free to email him.
