#UofTfinalexams – 10 tips to survive finals at the library

Exams are upon us and students are flocking to the libraries on campus to study! There are several things you can do to make your time at the library a bit less stressful and a lot more productive.

Stop by one of our 44 libraries for research help, a snack or a quiet place to work this finals season!

  1. Ask Us desk

Shelves and databases can be difficult to navigate. When you need help, stop by the Ask Us desk (located on the 2nd floor in Robarts Library) and ask us anything. One of our staff will be happy to point you in the right direction!

  1. Ask a Librarian chat service

If you can’t make it into the library, the Ask a Librarian chat service can help you from wherever you have internet access! To learn more, check out this informational video.

  1. Enjoy your food (in the food court)

We all get snack-happy when studying, so drop by one of our cafeterias to recharge and reload. Enjoy your break in the food court, or outside as the weather gets warmer, to help keep our books and spaces clean and ready for the next user.  

  1. Don’t save seats

We want all users to get a seat as quickly as possible, so please refrain from saving seats for your friends, classmates or backpack! Belongings left unattended for 20 minutes or more may be moved by staff to accommodate other students. 

  1. Leave group study rooms for groups

Please leave group study rooms for groups. If you are part of a group feel free to book one of our group study rooms online. 

  1. Don’t leave your belongings unattended

Remember to take all of your belongings with you while you enjoy your mid-study snack. Items left unattended for 20 minutes or more may be removed by a staff member even if you are saving a seat for a friend. Most importantly, thefts can happen in an instant. Don't take the risk. 






  1. Starbucks is open 24 hours

If you need a caffeine kick, take a break at Starbucks – open 24 hours during exams

  1. If you need assistance

Exam season is stressful but the University of Toronto has many resources to get you out the other side. If you’re feeling distressed or unsafe please reach out to our safety and support services.   

  1. Take a break

Keep your eye out for unstudy spots and relaxation station at libraries on campus! Unwind with colouring, origami, puzzles and more.

  1. Get your dose of sunshine

If the spring rain is keeping you inside you can still to get some sunshine! Study in front of one of our Light Therapy lamps for 20-30 minutes to help combat any remaining winter blues and get you through exams.
