COMMITTEE ON INSTRUCTION IN LIBRARY USE

Re: COMMITTEE ON INSTRUCTION IN LIBRARY USE

I. This committee is a standing committee of Library Council.

II. Membership:

Staff with direct responsibilities for library instruction.

Ex officio:

Co-ordinator of Instruction in Library Use
Administrative Assistant for Library Instruction

Appointed:

One (1) from each:
Engineering Library
Information Technology Services
Noranda Earth Sciences Library
Pharmacy Library
Reference Department (Robarts)
Science & Medicine Library
Sigmund Samuel Library
Each campus library wishing to participate

Members shall be appointed by department heads to serve one- year terms with the possibility of reappointment. Members shall elect a chairperson annually.

When appropriate, the Committee will invite other staff from the central and campus libraries to assist with specific library instruction issues.

III. Terms of reference

  1. To advise and assist the Co-ordinator of Instruction in Library Use in formulating, implementing and evaluating a coordinated instruction programme for the central library system.

  2. To form sub-committees as needed to deal with specific, instruction-related issues, such as schedules for programmes.

  3. To advise and assist the Co-ordinator of Instruction in Library Use in recommending, through Library Council, policies related to library instruction.

  4. To consult with library committees, staff and patrons as appropriate.

  5. To meet at least three times annually to plan regularly- scheduled library instruction.

  6. To report annually to Library Council in March.
