Overdrive Instructions

Please note that as of now, we are only planning to offer Overdrive as a stop-gap service for the duration of the pandemic. With that in mind, please only borrow the book that you requested, as borrowing other books will make them unavailable to whomever originally requested them.

  1. Go to the UTL Overdrive website: https://utltoronto.overdrive.com
  2. Click on the “Sign in” button on the upper right side of the screen.
  3. Enter your UTORid.
  4. Search for your book using the “Search” window in the upper right-hand corner.
  5. Having found the book, click on the “Borrow” button just at the bottom of the book’s cover.
  6. You may read your e-book using the browser, or download it to the Libby app (for iOS and Android) or Adobe Digital Editions (for Windows and MacOS).
    • Information on how to download the Libby app can be found here.
    • Information on how to download the title for use on e-readers or Adobe Digital Editions can be found here.
  7. If you have any questions, please contact: support@library.utoronto.ca

FAQs:

Can I renew titles?

  • To renew a title, select the Renew button on your Loans page. This option appears below the title three days before it’s due. If the title has holds on it, you will not be able to renew it. Instead, you can select the Request Again button to place a hold on the title and borrow it again when it is available. Learn more about renewing here.

Can I return a title early?

  • While materials will automatically be returned at the end of the lending period, titles can be returned early by navigating to the Loans page (under My Account), then selecting ‘Return Title’ beneath the title. Learn more about returning items early here.

Is there a maximum number of Overdrive titles I can sign out at once?

  • Each user is limited to a maximum of 3 checkouts at one time.

How do I add University of Toronto to my Libby app?

  • Instructions on how to connect to the University of Toronto Overdrive collection to Libby can be found here.
