Are you passionate about climate action? What if your creativity could help shape a sustainable future?

This Sustainability Week, U of T Scarborough Library and the Sustainability Office, invites staff, students and faculty to join us for this 2-hour workshop on March 19th, 2025 in AC 227.

Zines are DIY publications with a long history of challenging dominant narratives, and sharing ideas and knowledge in a personal way. This workshop will explore how zines can be a powerful tool for climate activism, knowledge sharing and advocacy. Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on pressing environmental issues, highlight local and global sustainability efforts, and express their climate concerns and hopes through art, storytelling, and collage.

Whether you're brand new to zine culture or an experienced zinester, come connect, learn new techniques and contribute to UTSC Library's Climate Action Zine!

In-Person Workshop Details:

This workshop will start with a short lecture and discussion about climate change, community resilience, research and information literacy and libraries.

We will also discuss the history of zine-making, and the power of zines as activism.

The remainder of our time together will be dedicated to creating our zine pages, with lots of snacks to fuel our creativity.

All are welcome to register --- see you there!

Can't make this workshop, but you are still interested in participating?

We want everyone to have the opportunity to participate! You can contribute asynchronously by designing and submitted your zine page. There is no need to register for asynchronous participation.

A zine template and instructions can be found downloaded here and is attached to this event page.

Submissions can be digitally submitted via email to nicole.slattery@utoronto.ca OR submitted in print to the Zine Drop-box at the U of T Scarborough Library Help Desk between March 1st to March 21st.
