Jewels and Gems: Treasures of the University Archives Revealed
Archives as places free of light and life and with rows upon rows of dusty old papers is a popular image. The University of Toronto Archives staff will dispel this myth in the March Showcasing the Collections tour. Many people are surprised when they learn what the role of the University Archives is and what it acquires. This archives is truly an undiscovered treasure of the University and every item within it has a story to tell us of our past. The holdings of the University of Toronto Archives span the entire history of the University of Toronto and include University records and the private records of individuals and organizations associated with the University. These materials, more than 10,000 meters, provide a fascinating view into the University's great past. Favorite oddities and jewels selected by Archive staff specifically for this showcase will be revealed
