About the library

Media Commons - Archives
To support in-depth research by the University community, the Media Commons Archives holds numerous important collections that focus on Canadian film/video production, broadcasting, non-print journalism, media studies, and the music industry. Some of these include the Gordon Sparling Collection, the Frank Peers Collection, Moses Znaimer Collection, the Robert Lantos Collection, the Alliance Atlantis Collection, the Patrick Watson Collection, the Michael McClear Collection, the Michael Hirsh Collection, the Greg Gormick/Clyde Gilmour Collection, the Syd Kessler - Jody Colero Collection of advertising, the NOW Magazine Collection, and the Blue Rodeo Collection. Media Commons - Audio Visual
In support of the University of Toronto curriculum the Media Commons Audio Visual collection currently holds more than 15-thousand titles. These include DVDs, videos, 16mm films, audiocassettes and various other formats. The reference collection of books, indexes and periodicals includes locating and evaluating tools, media catalogues, guides and indexes. A variety of in-library media playback facilities for individual and group use is available. The Media Commons is wheelchair accessible and provides closed captioned facilities.  Media Commons Theatre is equipped with a hearing-assist system.

Media Commons - Microform
The Microtext collection contains back files of newspapers, periodicals, out-of-print books, dissertations and manuscripts.. The collection contains over 2- million items in microfilm, microfiche, and microprint. The Microtext section also holds print reference materials in the form of indexes and guides to the collection as well as a small CD-ROM collection.
